江面上吹过一阵秋风，江岸上的落花在夕照中纷纷飘落。
离别之情让远去的笛声吹送，并随秋风吹到乱山的东面。

江上鉴赏
这首诗非常注意抓住江上特有的景物，从视觉和听觉两个角度，扣住“秋天”这特定的节令特点，描绘江上的秋色，给人留下极深的印象。江水浩淼无边，江畔红花朵朵，而到了秋季，西风劲吹，水面则起波浪，荡漾连绵，江花也渐次凋谢，脱下了红妆，那岸边或水上的小舟传来横笛声，也就使景色带上了浓浓的秋意，勾起作者的思绪。江水江花、西风横笛，这些特有时令的特定景物，就构成了一幅色彩浓烈的“江上秋意图”，具有鲜明的特色。
此诗一、二句两写景，其目的并不在要再现什么秋声秋色，而是旨在以比兴手法，用景衬情：猎猎的西风带来秋的消息，令人心生愁绪，绵绵的江水长流不息，让人顿时产生感触，晚开的花儿飘落，正所谓落红无数，也让人郁郁寡欢。这些景物，都带上了浓浓的感情色彩，使人愁肠百结。而三、四两句，则题旨非常鲜明地凸现出来：“离情被横笛，吹过乱山东。”特定的季节、特定的景物，触动了诗人的离情别绪：是自己远离故乡、孤身在外，涌起了桑梓之思，或者是亲人在外飘泊、时世动乱，勾起了眷怀之恋。整首诗，景为情出，情因景生，情景交融，寄寓深沉，深隽的诗韵诗味。
对于离情让横笛吹送的问题，古文学者刘逸生先生有这样详尽的解释：诗人刚和亲人分手，坐上向远方而去的船，看着江上的风光，秋意甚浓，也使满怀离情的诗人更添伤感，忽地不知何处传来笛声，呜呜咽咽的，听的更是心情沉重，而笛声一直没停，让诗人更感折磨，不过，蓦然抬头，原来船已转到乱山的东边，适才与亲人分别的渡口，都已望不到了。这是一种奇特的化虚为实的手法。
诗到宋代，很讲究炼字炼句。王安石的“春风又绿江南岸”（《泊船瓜洲》）是个著名的例子。从这首诗看，也是如此。因笛声而引起离情，李白就写过他的《春夜洛城闻笛》说：“谁家玉笛暗飞声，散入春风满洛城。此夜曲中闻折柳，何人不起故园情？”仿佛是随口而成，自然明畅；但王安石就不愿追随这种风格，他一定要把“离情”写成是一种“异化之物”，是能够让风吹着走的。这正是注意了锻炼，让句子显出不寻常的曲拆。

王安石（1021年12月18日－1086年5月21日），字介甫，号半山，谥文，封荆国公。世人又称王荆公。汉族，北宋抚州临川人（今江西省抚州市临川区邓家巷人），中国北宋著名政治家、思想家、文学家、改革家，唐宋八大家之一。欧阳修称赞王安石：“翰林风月三千首，吏部文章二百年。老去自怜心尚在，后来谁与子争先。”传世文集有《王临川集》、《临川集拾遗》等。其诗文各体兼擅，词虽不多，但亦擅长，且有名作《桂枝香》等。而王荆公最得世人哄传之诗句莫过于《泊船瓜洲》中的“春风又绿江南岸，明月何时照我还。”
