乃翁知国如知兵，塞垣草木识威名。
译文：你父亲懂得治理国事有如懂用兵，边塞上连草木都知道成名。
注释：乃翁：你父亲，指范仲淹。塞垣草木识威名：范仲淹曾仼陕西经略副使，兼知延州。曾攻取横山，恢复灵武，迫使西夏请和，不敢来犯。当时民谣称：“军中有一范，西贼闻之心胆战。”
敌人开户玩处女，掩耳不及惊雷霆。
译文：他使敌人打开门户以我为处女，又使敌人掩耳不及畏我如雷篷。
注释：开户：战争开始时表现安静柔弱，象少女一样，麻痹敌人，使使敌方不作戒备，像打开门户一样。玩：玩忽。掩耳不及惊雷霆：变用“迅雷不及掩耳”语，比喻军事行动像雷突降，敌方来不及防备和抗拒。
平生端有活国计，百不一试薶九京。
译文：平生确有救国的大计，百分之一也不曾试行便葬身九京。
注释：端：真的、实在。活国：救活国家。谓范仲淹有治好国家的能力。百不一试：百分才能没有施展一分。薶：同“埋”。九京：九原，九泉之下。
阿兄两持庆州节，十年骐驎地上行。
译文：你哥哥两次持着庆州节，十年中像骐骣地上行。
注释：阿兄：指范纯仁，熙宁七年（1074年）及元丰八年（1085年）两度为庆州知州。节：符节，符节是用于军事指挥的。骐驎：良马，日行千里，常用以比喻有大志、有能力的人オ。
潭潭大度如卧虎，边头耕桑长儿女。
译文：深沉大度好似卧虎，使边民耕田种桑生儿育女。
注释：潭潭：幽深之状，喻深沉大度。耕桑：表示安居乐业。长：养育。
折冲千里虽有余，论道经邦政要渠。
译文：运筹帷幄虽有馀裕，论大道治邦国正需要渠。
注释：折冲：这里称赞范纯仁“运筹帷幄，决胜干里”。政：同“正”。要：须要，需要。渠：他。
妙年出补父兄处，公自才力应时须。
译文：你青春年少外任补官在父兄之处，自然是才力能应时势所需。
注释：应时须：适应时势需要。
春风旍旗拥万夫，幕下诸将思草枯。
译文：春风吹动旌旗拥有万夫，幕下将领们盼望塞外草枯。
注释：思草枯：昐望着塞外草枯。凉秋九月，塞外草枯，便于进兵征讨。
智名勇功不入眼，可用折箠笞羌胡。
译文：个人的智勇功名都不在你的眼里，你要用折断的马鞭捶打羌胡。
注释：不入眼：不放在心上，指不追求个人功名。箠：鞭子。本用于打马，这里却说折鞭可以鞭打敌人，喻取胜甚易。笞：用鞭子打人，转为打击。羌胡：北方的一个少数民族。这里代指与宋对峙的西北边西夏政权。

黄庭坚（1045.8.9-1105.5.24），字鲁直，号山谷道人，晚号涪翁，洪州分宁（今江西省九江市修水县）人，北宋著名文学家、书法家，为盛极一时的江西诗派开山之祖，与杜甫、陈师道和陈与义素有“一祖三宗”（黄庭坚为其中一宗）之称。与张耒、晁补之、秦观都游学于苏轼门下，合称为“苏门四学士”。生前与苏轼齐名，世称“苏黄”。著有《山谷词》，且黄庭坚书法亦能独树一格，为“宋四家”之一。
